We don’t just focus on one genre here at Swamp Sound Studios; however, we do aim to put some fun(k) into your project. Swamp Sound Studios started in 2011 in a Northwest Indiana basement where swampy summer nights became the inspiration for its name. We pride ourselves on attention to detail and enjoy focusing on the uniqueness of each individual project with the aim of achieving original and timeless results. Music is an art and we treat it as such here at the Swamp. We have a true passion for bringing music to life and helping artists achieve their highest potential. The present day studio still retains a “homey” basement vibe and is stocked with the finest modern and classic recording equipment available.
Swamp Sound Studios is a private, home-based recording studio located just 50 miles southeast from Chicago and about 20 minutes south from the Dune Park South Shore Line train stop. It is owned and operated by chief engineer, John Lee Mick, who strives to provide the Region with professional quality analog and digital recording services at an affordable price.
Mick is an “all-in” style producer and engineer with roughly 20 years of experience in music production. Starting when he was about 14 years old on a Teac Cassette recorder, Mick found his passion for capturing sound. When he got to high school, he began producing albums for local bands in his parent’s basement. After graduating, while studying to earn his Bachelor’s Degree at Purdue University, Mick established Swamp Sound Studios, which is now located in his private home in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Mick has a passion for recording bands and live instruments as well as an admittedly unhealthy obsession with analog gear. He also enjoys many genres, has created many songs, and made many records over the years under his own project: Professor Space Boogie. He is on a journey to find the next best recording technique, and grow with every artist he works with. Whether you are looking to record, mix, or master a full-length album, or just looking for some advice on an audio project, Swamp Sound Studios has got you covered.
